MAKING GLOBES

Here's what the globe will look like:

STEP 1: YOUR PICTURE(S)

Your picture needs to have a background. If you are using a transparent picture, select a 2nd picture to use as a background.

These are the images I used for this tutorial:

Homer has scanned the following files and put them on the bottom of this post. Just scroll down to find them.

This is the Globe Tube I used:

Download Round Globe Tube at the bottom of this post.
Save and copy to your PSP Tubes folder.

This is the Globe Base I used:

Download Fancy Base Tube at the bottom of this post.
Save and copy to your PSP Tubes folder.

Download Gold Sparkle Tube at the bottom of this post.
Save and copy to your PSP Tubes folder.

1. Open PSP, Click File and Open. Open your picture(s).

2. If using 1 picture, skip the next step.

STEP 2: GETTING YOUR PICTURE READY

1. Clean up the edges if needed. I had to remove the grey/white edge around the image. Using the magic wand tool  click on the grey/white areas around the image and click on the sissors. Repeat this until you are able to select all of the part of the picture that you don't want at one time. With some images there is not enough edge and it will only select one section at a  time. If this is happening right click on image (no more dotted lines) and  click on image  and change your canvas size.

2. With the part that you don't want selected click on Selections. Then, Invert.

3. I had to resize this image to 150% its orginal size so that it would look right on my background. To do this... Click on Image and Resize. Lock Aspect Ratio needs to be checked.

Click For Larger Image

3. Now click on Edit and Copy. Minimize this image .

4. Maximize  the background image. Click on Edit and Paste as New Layer.

Click For Larger Image

5. Click on the Move tool  and click on the image to move it to where you want.

6. Click on Layers and Merge. Click on Merge Visible.

STEP 3: GETTING YOUR CIRCLE

1. Click on the Slection Tool .

Settings:
Selection Type ... Circle
Mode ... Replace
Feather ... 0
Anti - alias ... unchecked

2. Put the cross-hairs in the center of the image. Hold down the left mouse button and make a circle. If you don't get it right the first time, just click undo and try again.

3. Click on Edit and Copy. Minimize this image .

4. Click on Edit and Paste as New Image.

STEP 4: GETTING YOUR CIRCLE READY

I had to Resize mine to 50% its orginal size. Adjust yours to a size you like. You can click on View and  Preview in Web Browser to see how large or small it is.

1. To change the size: Click on Image. Click on Resize. Adjust until you like the size.

STEP 5: ADDING THE GLOBE

1. Click on Layers and New Raster Layer.  Click OK. Default Settings are ok.

2. Click on Picture Tube Tool . Select the globe that you want. Click in the picture. I used the round globe with a scale of 72. If you don't get the globe the right size the first time, click the undo button and adjust the scale.

3. Click on the Move tool  and click on the globe to move it to where you want.

4. Click on Layers and Merge. You want to Merge Visible.

STEP 6: ADDING THE BASE

1. Make room for the base on your canvas. Click on Image. Click on Canvas Size.

Settings:
Lock Aspect Ratio ... UNchecked
Placement ... Click on Center Up Arrow
Width & Height ... Adjust so that you can fit your base on the canvas

2. Click on Layers and New Raster Layer.  Click OK. Default Settings are ok.

3. Click on Picture Tube Tool . Select the base that you want. Click in the picture. I used the fancy base with a scale of 50.

4. Click on the Move tool  and click on the base to move it to where you want.

5. Click on Layers and Merge. You want to Merge Visible.

I reached the 10,000 word limit so please

I created a group so that I could upload the tubes. In order to view them you have to join.

If anyone knows somewhere I can upload them for free without people having to join to download  them, please let me know and I'll move them there.

I also have a teardrop and oval globe, plus several sparkles and some tubes I made that I'd like to upload and share.

I tried imageshack they don't support .tub files

Shady Lady

Tried photbucket. They don't support .tub extensions either.

You could try using a webhost?

I would love to have a siggie and avvie made with angel wings and stuff, are you still making them?

Shady Lady

I just made these. You're welcome to snag them. What do you want your signature to say?

I am truly impressed by all of you guys knowledge of signatures, globes and avatars.  I have learned a lot from you all - it's really cool.  I check this subject regularly trying to learn how you all do it!  Thank you for all the help!  I have signatures down now - still trying to fine tune avatars and one day globes!   ;)

Shady Lady

Finally, finished the Globes Tutorial. I reached the 10,000 word limit so I had to break it up into 2 seperate posts. Hope everyone enjoys it.

Jonathan

thats paint shop right? I have photoshop, how do it on there?

Shady Lady

I don't have photoshop so I'm not sure. There's a link to get paint shop pro 8 free for 60 days in the 1st tutorial. If you want to use Photoshop, you can do a search for tutorials using photoshop on any of the topics I've covered. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
